      Last week, the EDC co-hosted an international business symposium with Associated Industries of Massachusetts-International Business Council (“AIM-IBC”) at the Sheraton in Springfield. We wish to thank MassMutual for sponsoring the event. Almost 100 people attended the symposium, including consular and trade and investment officials from nine countries.       Toys "R" Us to hire 10,000 seasonal workers, including new staff at Hampshire Mall and Eastfield Mall
      Retailers are expected to hire more temporary staff in 2010 than they hired in 2009 and 2008, but not nearly as many as they hired in 2006 and 2007 when they added more than 746,800 temporary workers nationally, according to the annual holiday hiring forecast, global outplacement consultant Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc. in Chicago.

    4. Big Y Proposes Franklin Supermarket

      Springfield-based Big Y Foods Inc. plans to open a supermarket in Franklin at the site of the former Franklin Buffet restaurant. The site is at 348 East Central St. (Route 140). The store has been proposed as a 55,000-square-foot supermarket and site plans have been submitted for approval with the town. Big Y estimated that the project would cost about $18 million.
