Pittsfield could soon host the region's largest solar power project, helping reduce its dependency on fossil fuels.
The city's Community Development Board Tuesday night unanimously approved plans by Western Massachusetts Electric Co. to build a 1.8 megawatt facility along Silver Lake Boulevard on a an eight-acre site jointly owned by WMECO and the Pittsfield Economic Development Authority. WMECO owns six acres, PEDA the other two with an utility substation sandwiched between the two parcels.
