      United Financial Bancorp, parent company of United Bank, plans to buy the parent of Enfield-based New England Bank for $91 million in cash and stock. United Bank will then be the largest bank with headquarters in Greater Springfield and the 10th largest bank headquartered in New England, said Richard B. Collins, United Bank’s chairman, president and CEO. Pre-deal, United Bank was 14th largest with $1.6 billion in assets.

      As part of its national expansion, Edward Jones is planning to open 60 to 70 new offices in the western region of Massachusetts, west of Interstate 91, by 2020, the Berkshire Eagle reports. Edward Jones representative Rick Schachner, principal, financial advisor development, told the newspaper that the company considers New England to be prime expansion territory due to its large number of population centers.

    11. 200 Springfield call center workers to lose jobs at TD Bank on Main Street

      Bank spokesman Jimmy Hernandez told 22News that bank officials have decided to consolidate their call centers to three locations, in South Carolina, Maine and New Jersey. That means the around-the-clock Springfield call center at 1441 Main St. will be shuttered by the end of this year, he told the TV station. The bank at that location will remain open.
