      Developers of Holyoke Cubit building launch coworking space

      Cubit building owners Denis and Marco Luzuriaga recently launched Cubit Coworks, offering desk, office and creative spaces that they showed off at an open house Thursday evening. Marco Luzuriaga said Cubit Coworks is a shared office without a long-term lease. Clients pay a monthly membership for a variety of spaces and desk options. The space also includes a kitchen, coffee bar, meeting rooms, a comfortable lounge, shower and restrooms. It taps into Holyoke Gas & Electric’s fiber-optic network for wireless connectivity. Coworks plans to install printers in every office and a central high-speed printer.

      Legislative Manufacturing Caucus honors Meridian Industrial Group of Holyoke

      State Rep. Aaron Vega, D-Holyoke, on Monday presented Meridian Industrial Group, a family-owned business, with a state proclamation. Meridian was recently recognized as the Manufacturer of the Year by the Legislative Manufacturing Caucus. The company machines parts for military and aerospace contractors, which include parts for Patriot Missiles and rockets used to deliver satellites. Meridian was one of 78 firms to receive the honor.

      The third annual Military and Veterans Job Fair attracted dozens of regional employers and a steady stream of applicants at the War Memorial Building on Friday. Applicants met with major employers, including Amazon, MGM-Springfield, Gulfstream, Baystate Health Systems, U.S. Postal Service, University of Massachusetts Amherst, General Dynamics, Hazen Paper and Hood.

      Students at the Holyoke STEM Academy and Wm. R. Peck now have access to the latest technologies thanks to the Verizon Innovative Learning Initiative and Digital Promise. Verizon handed out new Apple iPads to 533 students from both schools, which includes free, roaming Wi-Fi and the latest educational apps. The company hosted a rollout celebration at the STEM Academy Oct. 10.

      Planet Fitness coming to Holyoke Mall in late 2019

      Planet Fitness plans to open a 19,000-square-foot gym at the Holyoke Mall in late 2019. Billing itself as a “Judgement Free Zone,” Planet Fitness said it has more than 1,800 locations and 13.6 million members. Pyramid Corp., which manages the Holyoke Mall and 18 other properties in Massachusetts, New York and Virginia, welcomed a Planet Fitness to the Hampshire Mall in Hadley in 2017. “We are excited to open a new location at Holyoke Mall and introduce the community to our high-quality facility and supportive atmosphere,” Ryan Fernades, a representative for Planet Fitness, said in a statement.

      Dunkin’ opens ‘next generation’ store in Holyoke

      Dunkin’ Donuts officially cut the ribbon on a “next generation” store at 473-489 Pleasant St. Thursday morning. The new Dunkin’ features a unique, modern design equipped with the latest in brewing and pouring technologies, including Nitro Cold Brew, a richer, foamier offering. Freshly baked donuts, muffins and bagels filled the shelves. Franchisees Derek Salema and Peter Martins welcomed Mayor Alex B. Morse and City Councilors David Bartley and Peter Tallman to the ceremony. Aides to state Sen. Donald Humason and state Rep. Aaron Vega presented proclamations to the owners.
