      For the 40th year, local businesspeople traveled to Boston for the annual Beacon Hill Summit. The event connects people from our region in the business field with state-level politics here in Boston. More than sixty representatives from western Massachusetts businesses and institutions traveled to the State House for the event, which was hosted by Senator Gale Candaras. “Folks can feel kind of disconnected from their government. One of the promises that we made many years ago when I first ran was that we would bring government to western Mass. and western Mass. to government,” the Wilbraham Democrat said.

      Springfield named "All-America City"

      Springfield and Pittsfield were chosen Monday by the National Civic League as two of their 2012 All-America Cities. More than 100 U.S. cities submitted entries to receive the designation; one that has been given since 1949 to communities working to solve community problems. This year, applicants were asked to focus on how to close the achievement gap.
