      Although the average wage may mean very little to people, it offers a glimpse of where the region ranks in accordance with cities across the country, which places this part of Western Massachusetts right on the money for the most part. "This information can be helpful when looking at one region's economic health versus another place," said Mark Maggi, an economist with the Bureau of Labor and Statistics. "Obviously every single worker isn't polled, but the samples can give us a glimpse into what is happening with wages in a given area."
