      A recently released report, “Massachusetts Statewide Airport Economic Impact Study,” completed by the state transportation agency, detailed that all 39 of the Bay State’s airports, which also include Boston’s Logan International, employ more than 124,369 workers, provide a combined payroll of $4.8 billion with a total economic impact which exceeds $11.9 billion. (Logan, alone, accounts for $8.9 billion of the economic impact.)

      Westfield Gas and Electric Department plans to spend about $3.2 million on new electric meters that officials claim will save customers an estimated $17 million. The new meter system, which will allow for remote or automated reading of usage by customers, will be financed with $1.6 million from a previous bond utility and $1.6 million in new bonding approved by the City Council last week.

      Local property tax incentives offered to Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. for expansion of corporate jet services and maintenance at Barnes Regional Airport were approved Tuesday by the Massachusetts Office of Business Development. Also approved Tuesday were incentives aimed at attracting Seal Ryt, an Easthampton manufacturing firm, to Westfield and Armbrook Senior Living LLC which is planning a 107 unit complex for senior and assisted living at 551 North Rd.

The garden creation, financed through fund-raising and hospital donations, was cited as a goal last year when the hospital celebrated its 100th anniversary.
