The Board of Selectmen has signed a contract with Borrego Solar Systems of Lowell for a 20-year contract for the lease of 17 acres of the old town landfill, Harrington said. In exchange for the lease of property to the solar company, the town will get a credit for energy purchases. Electricity now costs the town 9 cents per kilowatt hour. The price to the town will come down to 5 cents per kilowatt hour, Harrington said. That will result in an electricity savings to the town of about $80,000 to $100,000 the first year, Harrington said.
