    1. Springfield jobless rate dips to 11.8% Springfield residents gained 711 jobs, and the unemployment rate dipped to 11.8 percent from 12.4 percent in July. While not a stellar leap, the decrease in joblessness is one of the most significant in recent months, said Rena Kottcamp, research director for the Massachusetts Division of Unemployment Assistance.
