EDC HOSTED LOGISTIC CONFERENCE

1. The EDC hosted a Logistics Conference at the Sheraton Springfield on March 29.  We wish to thank our co-host Associated Industries of Massachusetts and event sponsors U.S. Trust, GZA and the Hartford-Springfield Economic Partnership.  Curtis Spencer, President of IMS Worldwide, a global logistics and supply chain management consulting firm, gave the keynote address.  Panelists from air and seaports and rail lines that serve New England described opportunities for companies using various means of transportation.  The conference drew over 100 people, a cross section of logistics firms, manufacturers, distributors, economic developers and planners for Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut and upstate New York.  The EDC believes that our region is well positioned to capture new business due to our historic logistics advantages, as well as upgrades to facilities in the region.  In addition, smart manufacturers and importers/exporters should be able to save money and improve sustainability, even with oil prices rising.
