Pre-College Summer Design Academy at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst helps high school students 'design' future careers

Caryn J. Brause, director of the Pre-College Summer Design Academy, started the program in 2010 to help high school students with an interest in design. She had an interest in design from an early age, but without specific programs related to the field, she spent time in the shop wing of her high school doing mechanical drawing. She hopes that by exposing students to designing furniture, rooms, buildings and landscapes, they will find something that sparks their interest whether it relates to architecture or other design fields.
