Springfield, regional unemployment creep up in January

1. Over the year, the Greater Springfield labor market has added 1,000 jobs, or 0.4 percent, said Rena Kottcamp, research director for the Massachusetts Division of Unemployment Assistance. While unemployment is up in Springfield, it was slightly down year-over-year in Chicopee from 11.6 percent in January 2010 to 10.6 in January of this year.
