EDC Takes Position on Gas Tax

1. The Directors of the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts’ voted to support Senate Bill 13 and House Bill 107, and to forgo any increases in revenue derived from the gasoline tax until the actual costs of these reforms is understood. Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee Thomas Creed presented the following motion, which was unanimously approved.

   “The EDC urges our legislative delegation to support long overdue reforms to the state transportation delivery system immediately, and to forgo any increases in revenue derived from the gasoline tax until the actual cost of these reforms is understood. During any discussion of revenue increases, we urge the delegation to consider the competitive position of Massachusetts relative to neighboring states, and to assure that our region receives an equitable portion of any increased revenue dedicated to our specific public transit needs and other transportation related capital expenditures.”
