EDC Companies and Directors Well Represented at International Symposium

1. Last week, the EDC co-hosted an international business symposium with Associated Industries of Massachusetts-International Business Council (“AIM-IBC”) at the Sheraton in Springfield. We wish to thank MassMutual for sponsoring the event. Almost 100 people attended the symposium, including consular and trade and investment officials from nine countries. The keynote address was provided by Dan Reed, the President of the NBA Development (“D”) League, who described the D League’s growth (and why Springfield was chosen as a franchise) and the NBA’s international initiatives. EDC Directors George Burtch from Hasbro and Andreas Goettzman from Süddekor were among the panelists for our two interactive panel discussions. We want to thank TD Bank for sponsoring a dinner that evening for senior consular and trade and investment officials at the Student Prince restaurant.

    

   The EDC also hosted an economic development delegation from Basel, Switzerland, who spent the day in western Mass. We have received many compliments about the conference, but the proof of success will be in the new business opportunities that emerge. The EDC picked up two new international leads that day, so hopefully that is a harbinger of future success.
