    UMass Amherst asked students living off campus not to return to the area this fall; landlords say many are still renting apartments

    Jones Properties in Amherst normally has a busy May and June with leases ending and students looking for apartments for the upcoming school year. But those months were slow this year, said Andrew Jones, an owner of the family company that owns a number of apartments housing students from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and other area colleges. Students didn’t know what campus life would look like in the age of the coronavirus pandemic.
