    Nearly $2 million grant to UMass will provide computer science aid to Springfield...

    Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have received a nearly $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation that is aimed at helping to teach computer science to elementary grade students in the Springfield public schools. The four-year grant totaling $1.998,000 will allow UMass researchers led by computer science professor Rick Adrion, to carry out research "that will help teachers, specialists and administrators in Springfield's 33 elementary schools to prepare their students to understand and apply computer science and computational thinking skills early in their academic careers," UMass announced in a press release.
