    Stearns Square, Duryea Way renovation project in downtown Springfield takes next step as city seeks bids

    The city has advertised for bids for a major restoration project at Stearns Square and Duryea Way, seen as a key component of downtown revitalization efforts. Bids from contractors are due by Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Office of Procurement at City Hall. The project has an estimated cost of $1.5 million, including restoration of a historic fountain at Stearns Square, new and widened sidewalks, retained trees and new landscaping, lighting, installation of furniture, plantings and irrigation, and other enhancements for pedestrians and downtown dining, according to city officials and bid specifications.
