    Massachusetts unemployment rate rises; economy adds jobs in education, health care, hospitality

    Massachusetts added 2,900 jobs in May, but the state's unemployment rate rose to 4.2 percent from 3.9 percent in April 2017. From May 2016 to May 2017, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates Massachusetts has added 58,300 jobs.  The May state unemployment rate remains slightly lower than the national rate of 4.3 percent reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
