The Springfield Redevelopment Authority has selected Appleton Corp. to manage day-to-day operations at Union Station when it reopens later this month. Union Station, built 91 years ago, closed in 1973. Its $94 million renovation was 40 years in the making. The grand reopening weekend is set for June 23, 24 and 25. Appleton Corp. is a unit of the O'Connell Companies in Holyoke. Construction company Daniel O'Connell's Sons, which served as general contractor on the Union Station redevelopment project, is also part of the O'Connell Companies.
