    Dropout rate down more than 50 percent in Holyoke, Lawrence, Springfield in five-year...

    In a span of five years, three Massachusetts school districts saw drastic improvements in lowering their dropout rates.  During the 2015-2016 school year, the dropout rate in Springfield Public Schools was under 5 percent, a 57 percent decrease compared to the 2010-2011 rate, a school year when 791 students dropped out. In that same time frame, Holyoke Public Schools has seen more than a hundred additional students remain in school annually, a 54 percent reduction in dropouts.  Across the state, Lawrence has seen a 51 percent decrease in students dropping out of the city's four high schools.
