    Springfield 'rising to new heights' on $3.3 billion in development, city official tells chamber

    Springfield's chief development officer detailed $3.307 billion in ongoing and recent economic development projects in the city for a Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce audience meeting Tuesday. Called "Springfield: Rising to New Heights," Kevin Kennedy's presentation was a follow-up to presentations he gave in 2014 and 2015. It drew more than 200 attendees to the CityStage theater. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno opened the presentation by talking about how Springfield was near bankruptcy a decade ago. It's not only recovered but has endured the problems endemic to urban America and the June 2011 tornado, he said.
