    Nearly $16 million in federal funds awarded to support new Massachusetts charter schools

    Charter schools across Massachusetts will receive a big boost in funding thanks to a federal grant program. The U.S. Department of Education announced Thursday that the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will receive $15,876,000 over three years. The federal funds are earmarked to support opening new charter schools, strengthening accountability for charter school performance and sharing best practices between charters across the state. Massachusetts is one of eight states across the country to receive such funds.
