The Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts and the The Greater Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau have put out a request for proposals soliciting marketing firms to develop a new brand identity for the region. That marketing plan may -- or may not -- include a new nickname to replace Pioneer Valley. 'I'm trying not to go in with any preconceived notions,' said Richard K. Sullivan Jr., the EDC's president & CEO. 'I think it is fair to say that the brand 'Pioneer Valley' doesn't really mean anything out of perhaps an internal market. And even then people are confused.'
