    Springfield medical group opens state's first Hypertension Practice Center

    Recently, the United States Preventative Services Task Force recommended that an office diagnosis of high blood pressure be confirmed by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring before starting treatment, a service one local medical practice now offers through its certified hypertension center. USPSTF made the recommendation because a person's blood pressure can become elevated in response to being in a clinical setting, something called the "white coat" effect. Nicotine and caffeine can also result in an elevated reading.
