    Curtis Blake pledges $50,000 challenge grant to new Springfield school bearing his name

    Friendly co-founder and philanthropist Curtis Blake has pledged a $50,000 challenge grant in support the new Curtis Blake Day School, which is now operating under a new state license on the campus of the Children's Study Home on Old Acre Road. In March, American International College announced its decision to close the off-campus day school, located at 979 Dickinson St., by the end of the school year – touching off a wave of protests from school leaders, teachers, parents, students and former students who said the school's unique educational approach could not be replicated elsewhere.
