Rick Sullivan, Gov. Deval Patrick's chief of staff, poised to become president & Ceo of the Western Massachusetts Economic Development

Richard K. Sullivan Jr., chief of staff for Gov. Deval L. Patrick, has been tapped to become president and CEO of the Western Massachusetts Economic Development Council after he completes his responsibilities to the governor in mid-January, the council's board of directors announced Tuesday. Sullivan, formerly Mayor of Westfield and state Energy & Environmental Affairs secretary, will succeed Allan W. Blair, president and CEO of the Economic Development Council since it was created in 1996. Blair will retire on Dec. 31, ending a 44-year career of creating jobs and developing business opportunities in Western Massachusetts.
