    Holyoke beginning $250,000 assessment of old Parsons Paper mill with aim of marketing the site

    Established in 1853, Parsons Paper Co. was the first paper company in a city that came to be called the Paper City, for the mills devoted to that endeavor, and now a $250,000 review is underway to make the ravaged site marketable again. "Essentially, it's looking at soil conditions where one would suspect contaminants could have accumulated due to prior operations of the paper mill site. It really depends on what is found," Marcos A. Marrero, director of the city Department of Planning and Economic Development, said in an email Friday (Oct. 17).
