    Westfield changes property focus for new $36 million elementary school

    The city has dropped plans to acquire Main Street farm land to satisfy open space requirements for its planned $36 million elementary school at Ashley and Cross streets. Also, because of delays in beginning construction, Mayor Daniel M. Knapik announced Wednesday the city must seek new competitive bids for building the state model school. Knapik has notified the City Council that no action is required on a previously submitted order of taking or eminent domain for the Wielgus property and a $260,000 appropriation request to pay the appraisal amount of the 33-acre parcel.
