    Gov. Deval Patrick announces $5 million state grant for UMass' Springfield

    Gov. Deval Patrick will announce on Thursday the state is giving $5.2 million to the University of Massachusetts’ satellite center in Springfield, money that will allow the center to open for classes this fall. “This is an exciting day for the people of Springfield,” said Assistant Secretary for Innovation Policy Eric Nakajima. “The next major moment will be when we have an opportunity to visit the facility with students learning and teachers teaching.”
