MassDOT, seeking ways to minimize traffic impact of $260 million rehab of I-91 viaduct in Springfield, posts online survey for commuters
The state Department of Transportation, planning to start a $260 million rehabilitation of the Interstate 91 viaductin November, is surveying those who use the major artery with an eye to minimizing traffic problems. The first phase of the project involves beginning work on I-91 near the Interstate 291 connection. It also includes planning for the possibility of rebuilding the 2.5-mile stretch of highway either at or below grade. Doing so would reconnect the city to its waterfront for the first time since the highway was built in the 1960s.
