      FloDesign said it is retaining its research center in Wilbraham. FloDesign was founded in 2007 to develop what it calls a wind turbine design based on jet engine technology, and promising to deliver more than three times the amount of energy as traditional wind turbines for the same size rotor. The technology was originally developed by founders Walter M. Presz Jr. and Michael J. Werle.

    2. Pittsfield Solar project clears hurdle ZBA could follow up with final OK tonight

      Pittsfield could soon host the region's largest solar power project, helping reduce its dependency on fossil fuels. The city's Community Development Board Tuesday night unanimously approved plans by Western Massachusetts Electric Co. to build a 1.8 megawatt facility along Silver Lake Boulevard on a an eight-acre site jointly owned by WMECO and the Pittsfield Economic Development Authority. WMECO owns six acres, PEDA the other two with an utility substation sandwiched between the two parcels.     3. Westfield officials pledge to minimize disruption of traffic during Main and Broad streets reconstruction program

      The downtown road project calls for reconstruction of Main and Broad streets from Little River to West Silver streets. It will include road improvements to portions of connecting streets in the downtown and improvements to Park Square. During the project, the city will upgrade utilities including water and sewer in the area. “It will be a tough two years,” said Westfield BID Director Lisa McMahon. “But, in the end we will have a beautiful new downtown,” she said.

    4. State approves deal to keep Titeflex jobs - MassLive.com

      A special tax incentive for Titeflex Corp., approved last month by the city to keep the company and 100 jobs in Springfield, has gained final approval from the state. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced Friday that the state Economic Assistance Coordinating Council unanimously approved the special tax agreement which will provide an estimated $300,000 in tax savings for the company during a 12-year period.
